I always liked One Hundred Years of Solitude, but your enthusiasm for this book made me reread it (after many years) and I absolutely loved it. And the sentence: "You know when you experience true love too young and it ruins the rest of your life for you", yup. ✋That's me. Literally.😅

I wrote my bachelor thesis on Frankenstein! Its title was "Creator and his creation: Frankenstein vs. I, Robot."

My favorite book of all time has to be Lockwood and co. I'm not an advid book reader but its a book i could read over and over again.

As a Colombian who has only read One hundred years of solitude in its original language, I can tell you it is real magic. I love it with my whole life.

1984 and Catcher and the Rye are taught in schools in Canada. They were mandatory readings.

I think people may be less and less inclined to say Harry Potter is still their favorite now because there are a lot of people out there that assume if you still like it you're fully in support of JKR (and that you're immature and you haven't read better books, etc etc) :P

Hi Emma, have you read Rushdie? I read "the enchantress og Florence" a couple of years ago and his brand of magical realism reminded me of 100 years of solitude. Note that I have only read 1½ book by Rushdie (the ½ was Victorry city... about the rise and fall of a fictional, magical city 🤔), but I think you will like his writing.

I'm currently reading The Bell Jar and I'm seeing so much Catcher in the Rye in it. Happy to see them back to back on this list! ❤

So many great books on this list. I don't even know if I can choose a favorite book but I am currently reading a book that probably will be added to my favorites! I'm reading House of Leaves for the first time and I'm loving it so far (I'm about halfway through). It's by far the most interesting read I've ever had. I also noticed that House of Leaves was hanging out in the lower left corner the whole time. 🤩

Oh man. I'm camp "have read the Count of Monte Cristo and did not like it". I just do not understand what people see in this novel! On a related note, I liked The Brothers Karamazov far more, but don't understand how it's a 5-star read for some people. It really dragged in places, though I will say that the author is a genius when it comes to creating very real characters.

I just finished 100 years of Solitude, it was an absolute masterpiece. I am a sucker for magical realism and beautiful writing. The repetition of mad passion and tragedy was so cleverly crafted. My only problem was when a grown man fell in love with a 9 year old, that was gross. But I am trying to remember it’s set in an older time and it’s a work of fiction at the end of the day. But ignoring that this has become a favorite and I can’t stop thinking about it

I Who Have Never Known Men. I have never been effected by a book like this before. I had dreams about it. It haunts my mind. Lingers in the back of my brain.

Totally respect your Jane Eyre opinion. It would probably be one of my tops because for me, I’ve gotten so much more out of it every time I’ve read it. As a young teen it was all about the romance (I was delusional), but every time I go back to it I leave with a different view about what the book is saying. At this point, I 100% share the opinion of Mr Rochester just being gross.

I am so happy my favorite books of all times are on top of the list! Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and Jane Eyre. And I am so determined to read more here from the list. 🎉

Jane Eyre, of all the fictional characters I've read so far, is the one I relate the most. Because, of course, even if we do not share the exact experiences in life, we share so much of our life's reflections. I can sympathize with her like how I pitied my poor self before. We've thought and felt and desired in similar ways, and I was also learning from her. Her character growth is also well-crafted, Charlotte made the transitions seamless. I felt so many emotions and I was so attached. I have felt her pain, hoped the same hope for her, rejoiced in her successes, had fun and fell in love with their dialogues of Mr. Rochester, and was curious too with the mysteries of the tale. Just amazing 💚
